DRIFT BOAT/RAFT FISHING FOR TROUT

Our region is blessed with beautiful rivers and stunning high country lakes and there is no better way to fully explore them than from our small drift boat or larger raft. We are able to launch and have you fishing sections of river that are inaccessible to bank-based methods, allowing the angler to fully explore magnificent sections of river.  A day out drifting the river could see you fishing a variety of techniques including nymphing a likely run, presenting a fly to a sighted cruiser, streamer fishing or presenting flies to fish during the evening rise. The lakes we fish are surrounded by snow in winter and are fantastic fisheries after it melts for the warmer months. Rising fish are common, most often to midges and terrestrial insects. They are also great places to learn loch-style wet and dry fly techniques. We can also combine stream and lake fishing, allowing anglers to fully appreciate what the region has to offer.

MITTA MITTA FLY FISHING RAFT TOUR

The Mitta Mitta River tailrace begins below the Dartmouth regulating pondage. Due to the depth of Lake Dartmouth, it supplies very cold and clear water into the river, making it ideal for trout. The Mitta Mitta River is characterised by fantastic long riffle sections, often with large pools in between, set against a backdrop of valley farms and picturesque mountains. The gravel bottom for much of the Mitta’s length provides ideal habitat for Caddis, Stoneflies and Mayflies. As a result of the in-stream habitat, the river can provide great nymphing and hatch-based fishing. The Mitta is also home to our largest Mayfly, the Kosciusko Dun (Coloburiscoides) which can provide some outstanding evening rise sessions. Larger terrestrial insects feature highly in summer, providing another visually entertaining way to fish this great river!

The raft opens up many kilometers of river and is truly a great way to fish the Mitta. Large gravel bars can be explored on foot by exiting the raft. Depending on the season and flow conditions, we can be rafting the Mitta as early as trout season opening. Reliable hatches usually begin by early October and large terrestrials like grasshoppers begin to make an appearance as summer rolls around. The elusive platypus is regularly encountered, providing a welcome distraction for both fisherman or even a non-fishing partner. We offer this trip at a fixed rate for either one or two people per day. It can also be combined with a fantastic overnight camping experience, allowing you to be delivered to your overnight camp by raft and continue your drift downstream the next day.

FULL DAY (8 HRS)
$690 1 or 2 people.

MURRAY COD AND AUSTRALIAN NATIVE FISHING OPTIONS

DRIFT BOAT/RAFT FISHING FOR MURRAY COD AND AUSTRALIAN NATIVES

North East Victoria has some of Australia’s best native fisheries, especially for the iconic Murray cod. Our vessels open up large sections of river to the angler, much of it inaccessible on foot. We concentrate on targeting fish holding structure, holding the boat or raft in position while anglers focus on landing their fly or lure in the correct spot. While you are moving quietly down the river, your guide can also point out wildlife as you are taking in the beautiful scenery. The fishing season for Murray cod is open from 1 st of December till the 31 st of August. If you are keen to chase other native fish such as golden perch, especially during the peak months of spring, we can also arrange trips on local lakes.
